BIO:

Born 1977, based in Edinburgh, Scotland, started writing graffiti badly aged 12, got a little better 1992/93, joined Many Style Crew 1994. Inspired by alcoholism and alcohol abuse (a national sport in Scotland), the big nosed wino characters were first created around 1997. A childhood of bad 1980’s anti-communist propaganda movies from the US sparked a great deal of uniformed soldiers, lost between the Vietnam war and WW2. Elph’s days are spent painting and drawing.

Is a Glasgow based artist specialising in characters and photo-realistic graffiti.

Since discovering graffiti about ten years ago Smug's work quickly grew into a perfectionist's obsession with heavy line work, letters and characters which has developed into a more photo-realistic style that has been exhibited widely.

Smug's paintings are meticulously rendered works which draw upon an eclectic range of influences, often making uncomfortable subjects into stunning pieces on canvas and in industrial and abandoned settings...'

BIO:

Estum is a graffiti artist based in Glasgow, Scotland. Although known more for his unique style of 3d wildstyle lettering, Estum also carries an arsenal of psychedelic drenched characters, which carry through the style of his unorthodox approach to piecing. Expect rabbit heads growing out of trees, back into acid fused fantasy lands and budular growths of lettering i.e. ensuring the secret wars crowds are provided with their necessary doses of mind expansion!

BIO:

REKOR Is a Glasgow based artist, with a background in Graphic design and Graffiti. He has exhibited in many shows across Scotland, including the Fusion exhibition at SWG3 and a group show at the GRV 2008. He has painted all over the world, including New Zealand, Australia, Japan, South Africa and prolifically across Europe.

He sites graffiti, graphic art, Japanese, Pop and Street culture among his influences. His style is contemporary and fresh but with roots firmly in the era of graffiti that most inspires him, original 70s New York painting.

- CONZO -

BIO:

Conzo is a Glasgow based artist who enjoys Poking fun at the seriousness of life which can be seen in his work and which possibly deprives from growing up in a town outside Glasgow where religion intervenes with football giving birth to a high level of sectarianism and the Sunday attire would be to arm yourself with a bottle of Buckfast, a pair of tracksuit bottoms and the prayer would be some casual racism. So finding humour in things that are commonly serious for the wrong reason became easy for Conzo to take the p*ss out of.

Conzo has been painting for over six years now, always trying out new mediums, working with letterforms, spray-paint, illustrations and digital design (or climbing a 30ft haunted tree in his local town and tying a pair 6ft hand stitched Y-fronts to the top for the whole town to see) His work is commonly character based, focused on the unfortunate shaped and ugly local people he has came across in his time. The serving point of Conzo is carry on, nonsense and reaction!

SECRET WARS EURO LEAGUE DRAW RESULTS

Ok, the draw has taken place, dates are being booked, sponsors are ready, tickets are being booked and artists are hungry for blood. The Secret Wars Euro league is going to go off!!

Here are the 4 groups. Each team battles Home and Away, so make sure you support your home team and of course welcome the visitors and show them what your city is all about.

SECRET WARS SCOTLAND - Qualifier Night

On Friday the 20th of November, Glasgow Hosted its Qualifier night for the 2010 European Warriors League!

The night was held down in the murky converted old court house prison cells at the Glasgow Corinthian, Squeezing in way over 200 punters, filling all three rooms in the venue up. There were no worries about dropping the soap, as Ink, heavy baselines and sick art where all that were being dropped all night!

Six Artists were to be chosen to represent Scotland and Glasgow to compete in the 2010 games. It was a night of hard made decisions, as all 9 of the artists produced beautiful work. It came down to a variety of different artists each contributing different and contrasting styles that will hopefully allow for a Solid Scottish Inky fist to form and smash the other teams and win some for the Scots!

SECRET WARS IS RE FORMATTING AND ROLLING INTO 2010 WITH A DIFFERENT KIND OF CHALLENGE

After 3 and a half years of single battle series locally in over 20 countries, we have decided to try something different and potentially more exciting for 2010... Introducing the European Warriors series!

"When we started Secret Wars 3 years ago, it was influenced heavily by various things from the Marvel comic, to Warriors and Fight Club. After experiencing the team battles around the World and seeing the benefits of this compared to the singles battles, we decided on trying it as a complete 6-8 month series!"

"I have noticed the crowds are more vocal and patriotic towards team battles - there seems to be more at stake and I love watching the artists free-styling alongside each other.... You never know what will come out the other end!" Terry Guy (Founder of Monorex and Secret Wars)

The rules are the same but the structure of the competition and dynamics of the battle are slightly different - see below for details.

How the competition will work & when

There will be 8-10 teams/cities involved in next years competition, and each city will select 6 artists to part of a squad. Each team will select 2-3 wildcard entries consisting of previous champs and general bad boys! The remaining members will be picked at the local qualifiers.

City selection events - November / December 09 (Check Secret Wars website for dates)

• Each city will call out and actively invite people down to jam and show off their skills
• Draw will take place to decide what team is which group (A or B)

1st Round - Group league qualifiers

• Two groups of 4-5 teams with the top two teams qualifying
• Rather than a knockout cup comp, we have decided to make this a little more interesting and maybe fairer - Each game will be a league match with each judge vote and crowd vote worth a point!
• Each team will play home and away against the others in their group

Semi finals

With the top two teams going through from each group, we will be left with 4 teams.

The winner of GROUP A will play the 2nd place of GROUP B and the winner of GROUP B will play the runners up of GROUP A.

GROUP A WINNER vs. GROUP B RUNNER UP

GROUP B WINNER vs. GROUP A RUNNER UP

These will also be home and away ties - with the winning team decided on total points earned over the two games. If the points are level than it will be decided by the team who gets the most away points.

GRAND FINAL

This will be hosted at a neutral venue, TBC nearer the time
